Outdoor Display Protection with an LED Enclosure

Before the great digital signage revolution, LED displays were a popular form of displaying video content in outdoor areas. While the modern LCD and plasma screen has now taken over many of the applications of the LED screen, LED displays still have their uses, particularly outside, where protection in an LED enclosure  makes them an ideal form of outdoor communication. Furthermore, LED technology is now being implemented in the more modern LCD TV, helping to provide a better solution for outdoor digital displays.

Traditionally, LED technology has been the use of light emitting diodes to create a video image. Often seen in big screens around stadiums, music festivals and other outdoor areas, an outdoor LED enclosure usually protects the LED array from the elements. However, the use of LED screens in such locations is dwindling as modern LCD screens are beginning to be made just as large, but LED technology is not going away.

LED Backlit TVs

LED screens in outdoor areas are beginning to make way for the more modern LCD TV. LCD screens have several advantages over LED screens in that they provide a far better image, especially with modern High Definition technology. Originally, LCD screens were never large enough for many outdoor applications but this is beginning to change, mainly because of the use of LED backlit systems.

LCD screens require a backlight to project the image. Typically, this is done with fluorescent tubes, but these are not very powerful, which makes the image hard to see in outdoor areas. By using an array of LED bulbs behind the display, LED backlit LCD TVs are now ideal for outdoor locations. However they still need protection, which is where the LED TV enclosure comes in.

LED enclosure

An LED TV enclosure is a protective housing designed to keep modern flat screen displays protected in outdoor locations. LCD TVs are not designed to cope with the various weather and temperature extremes of an outdoor area, which is why to use an LCD screen in such a location, a protective LED enclosure is necessary.

An LED enclosure not only keeps the screen dry, but also makes sure the internal environment inside the LED TV enclosure is maintained at the optimum temperature, regardless of the weather outside. While housed in an LED enclosure a modern LED backlit TV can operate in summer and winter, for a whole host of outdoor applications.

Not only are LED backlit TVs being used to provide big screen coverage of sporting events and music festivals, they have a host of other applications too, all made possible due to the protective nature of the LED enclosure. Outdoor digital signage is one such application. This is the use of TV screens to provide advertising content or informative messages in outdoor locations. Because of the power of the LED backlight system, the brightness levels of this type of screen makes sure that an audience can view content even in bright sunlight. The LED TV enclosure also makes sure the screen can function throughout the year, maintaining it in the perfect operational environment.
